September - December I East Sussex

These apples are grown in the High Weald of East Sussex, in 30 acres of orchard planted in the middle of 20th century. Compared to the French apple season, harvest is typically a little later in this corner of the world, as the light intensity is lower: the apples grow more slowly and develop more mature flavour. Russet apples are known for their rough, dappled skin and slightly tart, savoury flavour, a refreshing reminder of why it's worth waiting for a truly seasonal, British apple.
