These tomatoes are grown by Mike in Essex. He meticulously selects seeds from his best-performing tomato plants at the end of each season, ready for next year’s crop. The result is tomatoes whose flavour holds its own against Italian outdoor-grown varieties, picked by hand just thirty miles from Central London. Grown without any chemical treatment in his unheated glasshouses on the edge of the Epping Forest, the fruits absorb a maximum concentration of nutrients and sugars from his untreated, naturally fertilised soil. Black Russian, Pineapple and Red Pear names just a few of the dozen varieties he grows. His sparse watering concentrates flavour in their dense flesh, producing exceptional fruit right through the season.
